Joao Cancelo, transferred by Barcelona from Manchester City
On Monday, journalist Fabrizio Romano announced on Twitter that Barcelona and Manchester City have reached the stage where they are signing the documents to complete the transfer.
Cancelo will be loaned out until the end of the season, and in the end the contract did not include an obligation to buy, but an option, in exchange for €25 million.
Barcelona had only one right-back in the squad
Joao Cancelo is an older target of the Catalans this mercato period. In fact, Xavi has claimed that he wants a defensive right-back under his command this summer, regardless of the costs involved in bringing in such a player, and Cancelo fills that role perfectly.
Until the Portuguese was brought in, Barcelona only had Sergi Roberto left in their squad at right-back after Sergino Dest was loaned to PSV for the entire 2023/2024 season with an option to buy.
